Trust in God’s Word Forever, You Can Gain Life

    Once, I read a short story. It goes like this: A gang of young men go to ask a famous philosopher for his opinion on the true essence of life. Knowing their intention, the old man asks them to go to the apple orchard to pick the biggest apple. After a while, the young men all return from the orchard with the dissatisfaction of the apple in their hands. So they ask the old man for another chance to make a choice. However, the old man tells them, “No matter whether your choice is right or wrong, life will not give you another chance—this is the true essence of life.”

    Right! Life will never give anyone the chance to make another choice. How important it is to make a wise choice! At this moment, my thoughts irresistibly drifted back to ancient times …

    In the beginning, God created Adam and Eve. Then He put them in the beautiful Garden of Eden and told them, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:16–17). If Adam and Eve had obeyed God’s words at that time, they would have lived happily. However, when they were enticed by the ancient serpent, they turned to believing it. As a result, they were driven out of the Garden of Eden, and lived a cursed and bitter life ever after.



    People in the time of Noah were deeply sinful, but God told them through Noah the news of His sending the flood to destroy the earth. If people then had believed the words of God to Noah, they would be protected by God. However, those people preferred their own imagination; they treated God’s words as a joke and Noah a lunatic. In the end, their life was closed with the flood water due to their wrong choice, while Noah’s family survived the flood under God’s care. This was because no one but Noah believed God’s words, building the ark and preaching the gospel according to God’s command.

    In the Age of Law, God anointed Saul as king of Israel. God commanded him to obey Jehovah’s words and secure the safety of the Israelis. But Saul disobeyed Jehovah’s commandments twice: One was that he offered the burnt offering himself that only priests should have offered (a task Samuel should have done as Israel’s priest). The other thingwas that he allowed his people to take of the spoil that God wanted to utterly destroy. He chose acting according to his own ideas, and the result was his being rejected by God. Just as the Bible says, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king” (1 Samuel 15:22–23). Because Saul’s wrong choice, he lost God’s blessings, disturbed by devils, and was killed by a Philistine.

    When the Lord Jesus came to work, Peter, the Samaritan woman, the Canaanite woman, the tax collector, and so on, they all believed the Lord’s words, thus gaining the Lord’s grace and blessing. The Jewish people, however, chose to believe the Roman government, scribes, the Jewish chief priests and Pharisees. They condemned the Lord Jesus and thus suffered the unprecedented destruction. From the above examples, I was surprised to find: The root of all those losers’ making a wrong choice is the same—they disbelieved God’s words. Therefore, they lost their precious lives. The Lord Jesus said, “I am that bread of life” (John 6:48). “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). God is the truth, and the life; he who doesn’t believe God and God’s words has no life, and this is definite.

    At this moment, I suddenly saw the light. Because I finally found the way to be blessed and saved by God: forever believing God’s words and never being deceived by any person. This is the wisest choice to make! Now is the last days as is the crucial moment of meeting the Lord’s return. I secretly told myself: I must be careful in order to make the wise choice. I should never follow the path of the losers to suffer the same tragedy as they did, nor blindly believe people. I must keep God’s words in mind all the time: “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (Revelation 2:7). “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). Only by hearing God’s voice and obeying God’s words can we be called the sheep of God, can we follow the footprints of God. And only by believing God’s words can we gain God’s care and protection, as well as God’s leading and blessing.

    I remember God’s words in a spiritual book, saying: “You must listen to all the words that the Holy Spirit teaches; don’t drop them by the wayside. So many times you have heard My words and then forgotten them. Oh, thoughtless ones! You have lost so much blessing!” “since we are searching for the footprints of God, we must search for God’s will, for the words of God, for the utterances of God—for where there are the new words of God, there is the voice of God, and where there are the footsteps of God, there are the deeds of God. Where there is the expression of God, there is the appearance of God, and where there is the appearance of God, there exists the truth, the way, and the life.” Life will never give anyone another chance of choice. I’m willing to rely on God to look for the words of the Holy Spirit, and for the footprints of God. And I’m sure that God will definitely bring me before Him!
