God Blesses the Honest

    It was the last day of Xiaoxin’s probation. If passing through probation, she would become a regular employee and get a higher salary. She cherished her job very much. She earnestly told the good news of sales promotion to customers and introduced the pros and cons of the goods with smiling face. Because of her honesty, many customers came to buy the goods she promoted.

    At 3:00 pm, the store manager came to Xiaoxin and handed a bag of honey dates to her, saying: “Xiaoxin, this is your task today. Make sure you complete it. The original price is 26 yuan, and now it is 18 yuan.” Xiaoxin looked at the bag of dates weighted one and a half kilos in her hands, and then checked the manufacture date. She found out that it would expire in 15 days. She thought: It expires in 15 days. Only if encountering a customer who really loves it can I sell it. It is really a tough task. However, she could not say anything but smiled to the manager and responded: “Fine, I will do my best.”

    Just before leaving, the manager said to Xiaoxin seriously with a stern face: “If anyone asks you about the expiration date, do not directly tell them it will expire soon, but just say “Linqi” (another way of saying expiring soon in Chinese, which is indirect) instead. So that they will think there is still some time left before the expiration date. Understand?” Xiaoxin did not respond, thinking: Isn’t it obviously lying and cheating? But if I don’t lie, I may not complete the task and then the store manager may fire me for it. When she didn’t know what to do, she thought of God’s word: “Behaving like a normal human being is to speak with coherence. Yes means yes, no means no. Be true to the facts and speak appropriately. Don’t cheat, don’t lie.” From God’s word, she understood: God requests us to be honest; there shouldn’t be impurity in our words; we should speak according to the fact, and should not lie for the benefit of ourselves. Only this is the likeness of a normal human being. That’s right! I cannot lie to people just because I am afraid of losing my job. I should conduct myself according to God’s word. Then she made a vow in her heart: I resolve not to lie or cheat but to speak according to the fact. It is all in God’s hands whether I can sell it or not. I am willing to obey God’s arrangements.

    At 7:30 pm, the best hours for selling had passed, and there was only less than two hours left till she got off work. Xiaoxin looked at the dates in the most conspicuous place, thinking: The shift is almost over but the dates have not been sold. Will I lose my job because of it? Perhaps I could say as the manager told me instead of mentioning about the fact that it expires in 15 days. In this way, I can complete the task and pass through probation successfully. Just when she was planning to say like this, a customer picked up the dates and looked it carefully. Xiaoxin introduced it warmly and asked the customer about whether she liked honey dates. The customer said yes. Xiaoxin was very happy and thought that she finally encountered someone who loved honey dates. At the time, the customer asked about the manufacture date. Xiaoxin struggled inside: Should I tell the truth or say as the manager told me? At this moment, she thought of God’s word: “Do not do things before men; you should do them before God.” God’s words enlightened her: That’s right. God looks into the bottom of people’s hearts. He observes man’s doings. I cannot speak ambiguously. I should honestly tell the truth according to the fact. Then she said to the customer that it expired in 15 days. Hearing this, the customer hesitated, and then put the dates down and went to look at other goods. Xiaoxin was a bit disappointed. She looked at the honey dates in her hands, thinking: There would be no hope of selling it if I can’t sell it at this time. What about buying it myself. But I am not a honey date person and I cannot eat it up in 15 days. Everyone else all said the goods were “Linqi” and they all sold the goods and completed their tasks. If I did not tell the customer the expiration date just now but said it was “Linqi,” maybe I would have already sold it and could pass through probation successfully. Xiaoxin was anxious: Maybe I should follow the trend like everyone else does; anyway, everyone says in this way. At this moment, another customer came over. As Xiaoxin was about to do as she thought, she thought of God’s word: “People in the past ran their business in a way that cheated neither old nor young, and which sold items at the same price regardless of who was buying. Is a hint of conscience and humanity not conveyed here? When people used this kind of credo when conducting their business, can we say that they still had some conscience, some humanity at that time? (Yes.)” God’s word made her hesitate: I cannot lose conscience, disobey God’s word and commit fraud for the sake of saving my job. She decided not to lie to others but to be an honest person according to God’s word. Surprisingly, after a short time, the former customer turned back and said to her that she wanted to buy the bag of honey dates. She also had Xiaoxin assist her to choose some other goods. And then she left pleasedly.

    After the customer left, Xiaoxin thanked God silently in her heart. She enjoyed the pleasure of being an honest person, truly liberated in the heart. Such feeling made her much happier than earning a lot of money. At this moment, she realized that one will surely gain God’s blessings by putting His word into practice in life and work. After she got home from work, she saw a passage of God’s word saying: “Because the essence of God is holy, that means that only through God can you walk the bright, right road through life; only through God can you know the meaning of life, only through God can you live out a real life, possess the truth, know the truth, and only through God can you obtain life from the truth. Only God Himself can help you shun evil and deliver you from the harm and control of Satan.” From God’s word, she understood that God’s essence is holy and He likes honest person but not crafty one. It was God’s word that led her to be honest and live before God aboveboard. Thinking back to the process of selling the dates, she felt if it were not for the guidance of God’s word, she would have lost integrity as well as dignity, lying and cheating like others did. It was God’s care and protection that made her act in line with His will. She thanked God from the bottom of her heart, willing to continue being an honest person from the day on.

    Finally, she passed her probation and became a regular saleswoman.
