Son Is No Longer Addicted to Online Games

Early in the morning, my husband woke me up as I was still in my sleep. “Did you turn on Wi-Fi network last night?” asked he anxiously. “No. Why?” said I with clouded eyes. “It must be our child who did it. I shut it off last night before I went to bed. But when I got up in the morning, I found it available. Since you didn’t, it was he.” My husband sputtered. On hearing that, I suddenly sat up, saying, “No wonder he goes to bed early every night. It turned out that he secretly surfed the Internet on the cellphone.” My husband was so angry that he walked round and round the room, and said, “No wonder his examination score has gone down recently. Now I finally discover the reason.” I also got so tensed up, thinking: “The child inherently is in poor health. I don’t know till what time he stays up every night.” As my husband walked out of the bedroom, he said fiercely, “Today I have to fix the kid sharply.” Hearing that, I hurried after him. After rushing in our son’s bedroom, my husband woke him up and asked in a loud voice, “Do you stay up late and play with your cellphone secretly every night?” With those words, he made a movement as if to hit the child. I stopped him quickly and said, “Please calm down!” The child rapidly slid from the bed as soon as he realized that something was wrong.
Seeing my husband turn to chase after him, I took my husband by the arm. As quickly as possible, my son dressed himself and shouldered his schoolbag, and then fled from home. When I released my husband, he sat feebly on the sofa with resignation. Looking at my son’s figure, I was both full of pity and worry. I ceaselessly prayed to God in my heart, “God! I can do nothing. How can I rely on You to solve my family’s problem and pull my child back from the Internet? I ask for Your help.” After the prayer, my heart gradually calmed down. Sitting on the sofa, my husband frowned and said with a sigh, “What happened is exactly what I most feared. The kid is only a student in primary school. If he is addicted to surfing the Internet, then he will be ruined for a lifetime.” I said to him quietly, “You just go to work in peace. I will talk to him about that when he is home from school this evening,” My husband rose to his feet and said indignantly, “In peace? How can I be in peace? On TV and in our neighborhood, there are many examples of the children who were ruined because of indulging in network. It is simply the way you present it. Can it be solved by talking with him?” Seeing him look so worried, I thought to myself, “It is because he doesn’t believe in God. If I don’t believe in Him, I must be more anxious than he.” I smiled and said, “Can it be solved by beating him? Take it easy.” He looked at me in disbelief with a wry smile and then dragged his feet to go to work.
In the evening, after my son got home from school and finished his homework, I prayed to God in my heart, committed the matter of my son playing games into His hand, and asked Him to guide me. Then I called my son before me, “My dear, you read God’s words less recently. Come! Let’s read a few passages of His words together today. I’ll read it, and you listen carefully, OK?” He agreed with me and sat down in front of me submissively. I opened up God’s word “Young People Should See Through the Evil Trends of the World” and began to read, “when people play games for a long time, their willpower would evaporate. The unbelievers have a word to describe this. What is it? It is “decadence.” Always playing games, always playing on the computer—this kind of person is decadent. “Decadence” is a word of the unbelievers. We say that these people have no normal humanity. They have been filled with the violence and killing of these games and with the things of virtual worlds. The things of normal humanity have been stripped away by these games, filled and forcibly occupied by them, and they have forcibly occupied the things within people’s thoughts as well as any room they have for thought; they are then decadent. The unbelievers don’t like these people either. But in this world of the unbelievers now, these young people have no way to turn, their teachers can do nothing with them, and there is nothing any country’s education system can do about this trend except comply. It is for the parents to manage these young people, but they are unable to manage them, either.
The devil Satan does these things in order to lure people, to cause them to degenerate. For those who live in virtual worlds, they have no interest whatsoever in anything to do with the life of normal humanity; they are not in the mood to work or study. They are only concerned about going to virtual worlds, as though they are being enticed by something. …they then become addicted to playing games and are always thinking about playing them. The second they get bored or are sitting idle, or when they are doing some real work, at their job or study, they want to play games instead, and playing games gradually becomes their whole life. Playing games is like taking a kind of drug. Once someone starts to play games, once they enter into them, then it becomes hard to get back out and hard to quit. So regardless of whether it is young people or older people, once they catch this bad habit, it becomes difficult to give it up.”
After reading God’s words, I said to my son, “Son, Do you know how the video games comes about? God’s words have told us that it is one of the ways Satan corrupts people. Then, are there any good things from Satan?” He shook his head and said seriously, “No, Satan does everything in order to harm people.” I nodded my head, saying, “God’s words explain this quite clearly. Satan makes people be addicted to gaming, unable to live a normal life; in other words, they are without normal humanity. Just like your Aunty Zhang’s child who dropped out of school around 13 or 14 years old because of indulging in playing games. Now he plays games every day and is totally finished. And Xiaoqiang, who lived in our compound used to play the online games filled with violence and killing. At the age of 18, he used a knife and stabbed others with some dawdling punks outside, yet he said he had found the feeling in the game of hacking people with knives and it was so great. As a result, he was caught and sent to prison for hacking people. Does playing games make people live the life of someone who is barely human? This is exactly what Satan does. It seduces people and makes them depraved, and finally devours them. Are you seduced by Satan when playing games this way? …” He stared while I was speaking, looking a little nervous.
Afterward, I said to him, “Come on, son, you continue reading down.” He went on reading the words of God, “Some parents try to keep a close eye on their children but they can’t always be watching them. They may not play games during the day, but when their parents go to bed at night, they furtively turn the computer on, and play games all night long. A few years ago, there was a news report about a child who played computer games for 12 hours straight, who, it is certain, got no sleep during that time, who just played constantly, to what extent? When his parents found him, he was dead in front of the computer with his hands and his entire body positioned as though he was still playing the game. So how did he die? It was verified scientifically that he had died of cerebral necrosis—he played himself to death! Tell Me, is playing games something that normal humanity should do? If games were needed for normal humanity, if it were the right path, then how come people cannot quit them? How come people can be captivated by them to such a degree? This proves one thing: That is not a good path.” After reading God’s words, before I could say anything, he said in astonishment, “Mom, I am really just as the one God has spoken of. I do everything and God knows. I don’t want to be like that child spoken of by God.” Then I said, “Son, we can do nothing of ourselves. Only by relying on God and looking to Him can you break Internet addiction. Otherwise, you will be devoured by Satan bit by bit. Come! Let’s prayed to God together.” We two knelt down and prayed to Him. In a low voice but with sincerity, my son said, “God! I haven’t prayed for a long time. I feel distant from You for just thinking of playing games. God! Now I know playing games is Satan’s trick to harm people through Your words. I want to walk the right path instead of being harmed by Satan. God! I ask for Your help….” Hearing his prayer, I thanked God unceasingly from my heart.
Then, he took out his cellphone and give to me and said, “Mum, I don’t want to play with my cellphone. Keep it for me, please.” On hearing this, I heaved a sigh of relief, praising God in my heart: God! But for the revelation and dissection of Your words and Your guidance, how could my son overcome the enticement of online games! The moment my husband entered the house after work in the evening, he asked me urgently, “How is it going? Have you talked to our son?” I said easily, “Rest assured. Our son has agreed to give up playing games and already handed his phone to me.” He said with delight, “You had me there!” I said, “I did not make it. It is the God that our son and I believe in made it. It is God’s words that have power and authority….” He nodded approvingly.
I am indeed fortunate! If my son and I didn’t believe in God, this affair happened in the morning would have turned into a nightmare. However, under the guidance of God’s words, we recognized the scheme of Satan in His words. Furthermore, my son knew the danger of playing games by reading God’s words, so that he was willing to rebel against Satan and no longer afflicted by Satan. Thanks be to God! It is all achieved by the words of God showing us the way of practice that the storm of my son playing games subsided so quickly. All glory be to God!
